– Grüner Veltliner Ried Kirchenberg DAC, Nigl, (Austria, Kremstal, White )

Ripe, full bodied Gruener Veltliner. Bursts with tropical fruit contrasted with green apple flavors. But there is so much more to this heart stopping wine as it also offers cinnamon, anise, a finely structured minerality with underlying herbaceous notes, a vibrant acidity and a finish that goes on and on and on.

Giving this wine some time to evolve will reward you immensely as its potential unfurls over a few hours after opening. You can jump-start this evolution by decanting.

– Grüner Veltliner Gaisberg 1 ÖTW Kammern Kamptal DAC, Hirsch, (Austria, Kamptal, White )

This comes very close to realizing my dream of gruner veltliner! An entire microcosm of herbal, peppery and sweet vegetal (think snow peas) aromas, then a stunning mouth feel on the concentrated palate that’s at once creamy yet invigorating with a ton of mineral freshness pushing the finish out in the direction of infinity. And only 13% alcohol. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

– Lugana del Lupo DOC, Ca Lojera, (Italy, Lombardia, White )

Brilliant straw yellow marked with greenish highlights and golden reflections. Pleasant bouquet of melons and tangerines accentuated by mint and floral notes on the nose and a strong fruity personality on the palate.
Long, cool fermentation in stainless steel. Aged for minimum of 2 years in stainless steel then fined in the bottle for a minimum of 2 years.

– Pinot Noir Gumpoldskirchen Alte Reben, Johanneshof Reinisch, (Austria, Thermenregion, Red )

Pale to medium ruby. The nose begins with a hint of truffles, giving way to dark cherry and raspberry scents with a touch of spiciness. Crisp acidity and a low, pleasant tannins on the long and enduring finish.

At the foot of Anninger Mountain, at an elevation of 260 metres, lies the Grillenhügel (“cricket-hill”) vineyard. The loamy and sand soil with lime inclusions is home to a various selection of Pinot Noir vines. These plants are over 20 years old and bring expressive fruit flavours and great complexity in this wine.

Spontaneous fermentation in big oak vats between 28°C and 30°C, skin contact between 21 and 24 days, aged in French oak barrels of different size for 16 months (60% new oak)

– Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso DOP, Celestino Gaspari, Zýmē, (Italy, Veneto, Red )

A smooth and elegant wine that apears to be lighter-bodied than it really is thanks to its powerful alcohol being so well integrated. It certainly does not lack complexity. A gentle swirl will release very subtle fragrances of ripe dark cherry and, paradoxically, a hint of tobacco leaf. Silky and seductive, with judicious impressions of ripe fruit and spices.
Following the traditional “ripasso” method, the wine is refermented in January on the skins of the grapes used to produce Amarone. The wine matures at least three years in large Slavonian oak barrels, then some more in the bottle.

– DE TOREN Fusion V , De Toren, (South Africa, Stellenbosch, Red )

Fusion V is the crown of the De Toren Cellar’s labour – a tasting sensation and ageing jewel!

The Fusion is a beautiful blend of black currant, mocha and anise on the nose and palate, unfolding in rich, ripe layers. Integrated but still ageable, it’s an elegant Bordeaux-style blend that marries the excitement of South African spice with the sophistication of a French red blend. Give this wine a lot of air. (Wine Enthusiast)

Fusion V is named such because it is a blend of the only the best of the five red Bordeaux variatals that the farm produces: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

Influential wine writer Cees van Casteren observed that De Toren and Latour are perhaps suggestively close, but that the wines of De Toren stand proud in their own right.
Attesting to the quality of their wines, De Toren has been chosen to supply the proprietary wine for the world’s greatest hotel: The Burj Al Arab Jumeira in Dubai!
