Sartirano Figli

Sartirano Figli

“Piemonte is our homeland. Here wine is synonymous with cutlure, dedication to work and centuries-old traditions.”

The Langhe represent the area with the greatest tradition and presence in the history of our family. The hilly land, the composition of the sub-soil, the exposure to the sun, the dry climate, and the marked variation between day and night-time temperatures in autumn form the groundwork for the great red wines Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo and Barbera, which are the emblem of Cantine San Silvestro’s production. The hills of the Roero are separated from the slopes of the Langhe by the Tanaro River. Here, in a harsher landscape with clayey, sand-rich soil, we harvest the grapes for our Roero Arneis: a white wine of great structure which has put this area of great resources back on the wine map.

To the south of the Po River, adjoining the Langhe and Roero, the portion of land known as the Monferrato is to be found. This is divided into three areas: the Monferrato Casalese around the town of Casale, the Monferrato Astigiano around Asti, and the Alto – or Upper – Monferrato. The prestige of these sweeping hills is linked to four grape – varieties which give of their very best here: Barbera, Grignolino, Dolcetto and Moscato. Barbera is the preeminently Piedmontese variety. producing a vinous red wine with a characteristic bouquet.

Grignolino, on the other hand, yields up a more delicate, dry red. The appealingly bitterish Dolcetto grown here can boast quite unique properties. And with its sweetness and aromatic qualities, Moscato is a wine which beautifully flows at banquets. The Cortese grapes from which our Gavi DOCG is made are harvested in the area of the village of Gavi, in the most southerly part of the province of Alessandria. The clayey, calcareous hilly soil, with its fossils and marine sediments, gives the wine a unique mineral quality.
